Ready to take the plunge?

We understand that not everyone has the latest coffee gadgets and gizmos. In saying that if you don’t have a kettle, settle down Gretel and just boil some water on the stove. If you don’t have access to filtered water, just turn that tap on! These guides are tried and tested by our coffee team to what they think works best.

French Press

A shout out to our croissant eating coffee drinking brethren. This brew is a straight up classic and sure to get you going. Simple and elegant, its the French way.

  • Turn on the kettle & boil around 30oz of water
  • After it’s finished boiling wait 2 minutes to cool it down a bit (or add a touch more cold water if you’re time savvy)
  • Put 6 heaped tablespoons (60 grams) of coarsely ground coffee into the French press
  • Add 4 cups of hot water (around 900g)
  • Stir until all the coffee is wet and wait 2 minutes
  • Stir again & then plunge
  • Remove all the brew from the French Press - Enjoy. This should give you around 4 cups of coffee.

Pour-Over/V60

Pour-overs can get a little hectic but we’ve tried to simplify it the best we can with the below step by step guide.

  • Turn on the kettle & boil around 12oz of water
  • After it’s finished boiling, wait a minute till it cools down a touch
  • Use some boiled water to wash the filter paper
  • Add 2 heaped tablespoons (20grams) of medium ground coffee to the filter paper
  • Pour 2oz of water on the coffee and stir gently till all the coffee grounds are wet
  • Pour 10oz of the water gently over the coffee making sure the water touches all of the coffee grinds
  • There you have it – 1 cup of delicious pour-over coffee

AeroPress

On the move? No dramas

  • Turn on the kettle & boil around 14oz of water
  • After it’s finished boiling, wait a minute till it cools down a touch
  • Place AeroPress filter paper in the AeroPress lid and rinse with boiled water
  • Add 3 heaped table spoons (30 grams) of medium ground coffee
  • Add over 4oz of water on the coffee & stir until coffee grounds are all wet
  • Wait for 30 seconds
  • Add the lid on the AeroPress & plunge
  • If you need; add some extra water to make it weaker – Yum! This will make enough 1 cup of coffee

Cold Brew

Haning for a cold bevy? Follow these steps from our coffee experts for the perfect cold brew

  • Add 34 heaped table spoons (340 grams) of coarsely ground coffee into a large mason jar
  • Add 7 cups of room temperature water
  • Stir grounds through the water until evenly saturated
  • Place in the fridge and brew for 6 hours if you want it soft or 24 hours if you want it to knock your socks off
  • After brewing, filter the coffee through a mesh sieve then through a coffee filter
  • Dilute with water at a 1:1 ratio then pour over ice
  • The concentrate will stay fresh for 2-3 weeks

Chemex

More of a specky pour over coffee method that uses thicker filter paper to filter out the coffee sediment leaving a bright flavor and light body in around 4 minutes.

You’ll need a couple of things:
Chemex, filter paper, 50g medium ground coffee, scales, kettle & a spoon.

  • Turn on the kettle & boil around 750g of water
  • After its finished boiling, wait a couple minutes or add a touch of cold water to cool it down
  • Wash the filter paper with hot water before putting coffee in it
  • Add 5 heaped tablespoons (50g) of medium ground coffee
  • Pour 400g onto the dry coffee, stir it gently & wait 30 seconds
  • At the 1:45 minute mark pour the rest of the water gently over the coffee
  • Voila! Around 3 cups of coffee in approx 3:30-4 minutes

Espresso Martini

Looking for that extra kick?

  • 1 oz. HITW signature espresso blend or Cold Brew
  • 1 oz Mr. Black Cold Brew Liqueur or equivalent
  • 1 oz Vodka (for all thesweet tooths out there, add a teaspoon of demerara sugar)
  • Combine all ingredientsin a shaker, mason jar,water bottle, or any vessel with a lid.
  • Add ice and shake what your mama gave ya.
  • Strain into a chilled glass.
